Merrill Lynch downgraded Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac's stocks to "sell" due to ongoing problems in the mortgage market. The firm expects the government-sponsored enterprises' net income to be hit hard by the mortgage crisis over a period of several years, noting that credit losses are getting worse. Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac already are feeling selling pressure; and the report pushed their share prices down 1 percent and 4.1 percent, respectively.
