3 Mortgage Bills Await Legislature

Telegram & Gazette (07/30/08); Griffin, Anna L.
Elected and community leaders in Massachusetts are urging the state Legislature to take action on three mortgage bills before the legislative session ends on Thursday. Lawmakers are considering a bill that would create a temporary six-month freeze on foreclosures, one that would require just cause for eviction from foreclosed properties and another that would require court approval of a foreclosure. "If these bills do not come out of committee and are not passed by the end of the month, they will have to be re-introduced at the next session and that may be too late," says David Thibault-Munoz of the Twin Cities Community Development Corp. Nearly 21,000 homeowners in the state face foreclosure over the next 12 months, according to congressional research.
