Group Helps More Stay in Homes Last Month

Boston Globe (07/31/08)
The Hope Now Alliance said it orchestrated repayment plans and other loan modifications to assist 181,000 homeowners in keeping their properties last month, and it has helped approximately 1.9 million homeowners avoid foreclosure over the past year. Hope Now executive director Faith Schwartz stated, "All workouts are intended to be permanent solutions for allowing people to keep their homes." However, the alliance has faced criticism from federal regulators and lawmakers for not acting in a more timely manner.
