Contracts to Buy Homes at Low Level

The National Association of Realtors reports a 19.6 percent drop in its Pending Home Sales Index for the year-over-year period ended in January. The index measured 85.9 in January, holding steady from the prior month, with a reading of 100 indicating sales activity is on par with levels recorded when the index was first unveiled in 2001.
