Fannie Mae Continues to Add to American Indian Outreach

Indian Country Today (03/12/08); Fogarty, Mark
Fannie Mae, a longtime private-sector investor in Indian Country housing and mortgage markets, has stepped up its commitment to the Native American community with the addition of two lending initiatives. Community Express offers direct loans as well as lines of credit for residential development, while the IHBG Leverage Direct Loan taps into federal tribal housing funds in order to increase the monies available for housing projects. While the former can be accessed by any tribal body, the latter program is largely targeted to Indian housing authorities. In addition to the pair of new lending outlets, Fannie Mae has increased its American Indian outreach by hiring Bill Picotte--a member of the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe and former head of the Choctaw Housing Authority--as a staffer.
