Fed Sets Hearings on Countrywide Deal

Chicago Tribune (03/28/08)
Bank of America's proposed acquisition of Countrywide Financial will be the subject of public hearings in Chicago and Los Angeles. The unusual move by the Federal Reserve is an attempt to further assess the potential impact of the $4 billion deal on the public. A lack of responsiveness to homeowners facing problems making mortgage payments has been a criticism of Countrywide. During the public hearings, consumers advocates are likely to urge Bank of America to do more to help these borrowers.
