Although analysts are expecting a gain in the National Association of Realtors' housing index in February from January levels, the gauge actually dropped nearly 20 percent for the year ended in January, notes Thomson Financial economist Jeoff Hall. He writes: "We're not mincing words--housing demand remains feeble, and job losses in the first three months of this year add another heap of worry to home buyers and home builders."
