More Data on Mortgage Bonds Sought

Wall Street Journal (07/16/08) P. C3; Lucchetti, Aaron
The American Securitization Forum (ASF) plans to issue a proposal calling for the voluntary disclosure of 135 types of data for mortgage-backed securities, allowing for standard methods of reporting debt-to-income ratio and permitting investors to see individual borrowers' debt exposure, among other things. ASF says its proposal would complement disclosure rules imposed by the Securities and Exchange Commission and by ratings firms. Experts hope the new disclosures will jump-start the mortgage bond market, noting that bond issuers that do not comply with the recommendations would not be looked upon favorably by investors and ratings firms.
