Fannie Mae Sells $7 Billion in Securities

Washington Post (09/11/08) P. B4
The $7 billion in two-year notes sold recently by Fannie Mae was the biggest sale of such securities in its history, leading observers to believe the government takeover of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac bolstered investor confidence. They sold at a yield of 2.9 percent--0.7 percentage points above comparable Treasurys, down from a spread of 0.74 percentage points in July. Fannie Mae has received permission to pay preferred stock dividends in the third quarter, as they were arranged before the takeover.
