Senator Seeks Investigation of Fannie, Freddie Executives

Wall Street Journal (09/11/08) P. A2
Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas, wants the Justice Department to launch a criminal probe of the executives at Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. In a letter to U.S. Attorney General Michael Mukasey, he calls for an investigation into possible "accounting fraud and other corrupt practices perpetuated by top executives" of the companies. Such an investigation would provide the public with a better understanding of the failure of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac and would be helpful in holding their top executives accountable, Cornyn adds. He also raises questions concerning Justice Department investigations into the accounting practices of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac over the past five years.
